Who is behind carboncreditz?
carboncreditz is owned by carboncreditz ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Grass Roots Group PLC. Grass Roots Group is a privately owned company with annual revenues of £284m, net assets of £25m and over £50m cash at bank. It has 30 years of experience of running reward programmes based on the collection of points or credits that can be redeemed or exchanged for goods and services.
The company founder and Chairman David Evans received an MBE for services to corporate social responsibility.
How do carboncreditz work?
You collect carboncreditz by purchasing goods from participating brands and collecting tokens or by shopping on-line through our affiliate shopping site. We will credit your account with an equivalent amount of carboncreditz that you can spend on energy efficient items, offset your carbon footprint or transfer to someone else. This means that participating companies pay for the running of carboncreditz, not you.
Why should I collect carboncreditz?
Most people understand the need to look after the planet for future generations but are not sure how to go about it. carboncreditz is an a very easy way for us all to do something positive whilst buying everyday products.
How much are carboncreditz worth?

How do I register an account?
Registering is easy, from the home page click register to open the Login/Register page.
- First Complete the four boxes; First Name, Last Name, E-Mail address and User Name.
- Next confirm that you have read and accept our Terms & Conditions.
- Then fill out the two words in the antispam box. If you have trouble reading them, click try another, until you find two words you can read.
- Finally, click 'register'
You will automatically be sent an email, to the email address you gave us. The email will contain your user name and a password.Log into the site using these details, exactly as you receive them.Please ensure you check all your spam inboxes too – if you don’t receive an email within 10 minutes, log back onto the site and click on forgot password. Another email will be sent to you with your details. Should you still not receive this, contact us.
The first time you log in you will be asked to completesome personal details. Once you have done this you can amend your password to something more friendly.
I cannot login with the password that has been sent to me?
When you register, you will receive a password created for you by carboncreditz. This will be ten characters long and consist of numbers and letters. Type this password exactly as you receive it! Letters must be typed in capitals.
I have forgotten my password.
If you know the email address that you supplied us with when you registered your account then goto the login/register page. Click the forgot password link and enter your email address. Your password will be sent to you by email.If you have forgotten or cannot remember your email address then contact us
I cannot find my council?
Councils are classified under five regions to make them easier to find being; England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Greater London. All London boroughs have their own category of Greater London.
Why do you need to know my council?
We are interested in which part of the UK offsets the most. We think you will be interested too so once we have enough data we will publish a top 100 offsetters league table. UK citizens produce approx 600m tonnes of C02 each year ~ about the size of six double decker buses each year ~ and some areas produce much more than others. We want to help you help your community.
Why are my carbon pie charts all black?
You have three carbon pie charts; your country, your council and you. As you offset the parts of your footprint, then black part of your personal pie chart gets eaten up, so too does your contribution to your local council and finally our country. Offset your carbon footprint and make the pies blue not black.
I do not understand my carbon footprint summary
Your carbon footprint summary is a snapshot of your footprint at a point in time, so it will change as you change the way you live. You might change to a smaller car or reduce your energy bills, so once you calculate your new footprint, your figures are reflected in the summary totals. What will not change is the amount of C02 offset. For example, if you offset the 4 tonnes of carbon that your large car produces each year, AND then change to a small car (which only produces 2 tonnes) you will end up with a negative carbon footprint! AIM to be carbon negative!
When I enter my code I get an error - Code not recognised - please verify and try again.
Either you are making a mistake typing in the code or the code has expired.Codes are only valid for a limited period in accordance with the promotions terms and conditions. Make sure you are typing a '0' as zero and 'B's can sometimes look like the number eight and vice versa. If you are still experiencing problems then contact us.
I have spent money on-line and my carboncreditz have not appeared in my account.
Your commission is calculated by the shop you spend with and then passed to carboncreditz, who in turn add it to your account. Not all shops tell us immediately how much commission is due to you and the process can take up to two months. However as soon a we are informed of pending commission we note this on your account and always credit confirmed commissions the same day.If your commission does not appear within two months then contact us and we will investigate.
All commission is subject to a mandatory deduction of 10% that will be invested in an offset project on your behalf.
How do I pay bills using carboncreditz?
Paying your bills with carboncreditz is easy,
- first make sure you are logged into your account.
- then go to Spend carboncreditz / Pay your bills, make a note of the full details of the bill you wish to pay, if in doubt of the account details check with your bank or service provider.
- fill out the details in the boxes and enter the amount of carboncreditz you wish to pay including the two anti-spam words. These are displayed in a box in the middle of the form. These cannot be read easily by a computer, so make sure that we know a person is entering a bill.
- Press continue and your payment will be added to the next release file that gets sent to our bank every Monday morning (or next available banking day if the Monday is a public holiday)

What bills can I pay with carboncreditz?
You can pay any bill using carboncreditz, that can be paid using the bankers automated clearing system. You need to know the six digit Bank Sort code, the eight digit account number of your service providers bank account, their name and your bill reference. All this information is usually printed on the reverse of you paper bill or can be found on your service provider's website.
Can you give me an example of a bills payment?
Below are examples of the information you need to pay a gas bill where the service provider is British Gas and a VISA card with MBNA. The details used may vary so please check before you use the bill payment system.

Remember an additional 10% will be deducted and invested in your personal carbon offset account.

How do I transfer my carboncreditz to someone else?
The person or organisation has to be authorized to receive carboncreditz transfers. If they are, all you need is their account ID from their profile page. Go to Spend carboncreditz / Transfer carboncreditz and follow the instructions on the page.
We ask you to input the two anti spam words, which can be easily read by humans but not by computers. However if the words are too difficult to understand, just click try another.
I want to receive transfer carboncreditz, how do I go about it?
Enabling your account to recieve carboncreditz is quite simple, go to the Transfer carboncreditz page and click on the email link at the bottom of the page. This will send a request to the carboncreditz support team, who will check your account and enable carboncreditz transfers. Due to the large number of requests this process can take up to a week.
You will be contacted by email as soon as your account has been approved.
How do I buy C02 offsets?
Purchasing offsets is easy;
- Login
- Navigate to Spend carboncreditz / Buy Offset
- Choose from one of our projects, then click offset now
- You have to buy C02 offsets in multiples of 1 tonne with a minimum of quantity of 1 tonne
You will be asked to 'checkout' and the corresponding number of carboncreditz will be deducted from your carboncreditz account.

What do you mean by carbon offsetting?
Carbon offsetting is the process of reducing carbon emissions of an individual or company. This can be done by an individual changing their own actions or through a carbon offset provider.
Is this tackling the real issues?
Our lives mean that we cannot avoid having a carbon footprint of some degree but the more that we can do to reduce it, the better. carboncreditz gives consumers the opportunity to do something positive, whilst buying everyday products and services.
How have carboncreditz chosen their offset partners?
We have chosen two partners who are leaders in the field of offsetting CO2Balance and Carbon Offsets Ltd. Both companies have been chosen because of their high credentials and experience in carbon offseting.
What do the offset partners do with the money?
Our partners have the expertise to invest in auditable projects throughout the world. It's not just a case of planting trees! 100% of the value of the carboncreditz you invest is passed through to the offset partner.
Why do the promoters offer carboncreditz?
Promoters primarily want you to purchase their product or service. Because of this many of them regularly run in-store or on-pack promotions. By offering carboncreditz they are giving consumers the chance to offset their own carbon footprint whilst at the same time enhancing the company's own "green" credentials as a brand.
Why don't the promoters just pay for offset directly?
A lot of them already do. We want them to do this as well, as it gives you the opportunity to join in. Every day we use the goods and services of major brands and this is a way for each company and promotion to pass on a valuable message and reinforce their commitment to improving the environment.
Can I buy carboncreditz?
No, they can only be accumulated by redeeming promotional offers or by purchasing goods through our affiliate partners'websites. Please note that it may take up to 30 days for our affiliate partners to confirm that your purchase has not been subject to return or cancellation. As soon as this has happened, your account will be updated with more carboncreditz.
Please note that some affiliates take up to two months to pay commissions. carboncreditz will credit your account as soon as we recieve commission on your behalf.
How much does a tonne of C02 cost?
The offset cost per tonne varies according to the project and location. Therefore you will see differing rates per tonne of C02 from our offset partners.
